“I started drinking at 9 this morning”: John Daly claims he’s controlling his alcohol for his “son” Bryson DeChambeau after having 20 drinks
Bryson DeChambeau posts golf videos now and then on his YouTube channel, which boasts around 1.35 million followers. The channel features videos of DeChambeau playing golf with many renowned golfers and celebs. Recently, DeChambeau started a series of Break 50, where he has featured Donald Trump, Sergio Garcia and others.
DeChambeau welcomed John Daly In his Break 50 series on August 14. In that video, both golfers played barefoot and enjoyed their time on the greens. When asked how many Good Boy vodkas he had that day, Daly said that he narrowed down the alcohol intake to 20 drinks, as the day with his "son" DeChambeau was special for him.
“I started drinking at 9 this morning, um, might be the 20th. I've slowed down I've slowed down a little bit because this is an important day I'm with my son and we are gonna break 50,” John Daly said in DeChambeau's YouTube video (8:11-8:25).
John Daly endorses the Good Boy vodka brand, which is also called John Daly cocktails. The brand came on the market after being inspired by the legendary golfer and offers four flavors with zero sugar content. The flavors are blackberry iced tea, peach iced tea, iced tea, and raspberry iced tea.
Bryson DeChambeau calls John Daly “daddy”
Earlier this year, in an interview with the Press and Journal in July 2024, John Daly revealed that DeChambeau calls him “daddy,” a name that baffles the golf world since DeChambeau and Daly have no blood connection. Therefore, Daly revealed the story behind the nickname.
Daly reminisced about a moment from the Open Championship two years back, when little Daly caddied for him. That time, Bryson DeChambeau made a comment that touched John Daly’s heart.
“Bryson gave me the greatest compliment. He said, ‘I hope when I’m 56 years old, I’ll be swinging like you,” John Daly said.
Then, he revealed how DeChambeau bonded with him and called him “daddy”, while Brooks Koepka called him “uncle.”
“He is a great guy. He calls me Daddy, and Brooks Koepka calls me Uncle…I love watching them, and we became really good friends. Bryson is a great, great kid,” Daly said.
In the same interview, Daly also applauded Bryson DeChambeau's driving on the greens.
“The power he has is unbelievable. He can chip and putt and get up and down when he needs to,” Daly added.
Bryson DeChambeau has indeed been in great form recently and the golfer won the US Open by defeating Rory McIlroy by one stroke. He also had a second-place finish at the PGA Championship and sealed the 6th position at the Masters Tournament.
