"I still hold a few grudges"- Billy Horschel still not over LIV Golf players leaving the PGA Tour
PGA Tour veteran Billy Horschel was seen playing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the DP World Tour last week. While Horschel failed to make the cut at the tournament, one of his statements before the event began grabbed attention.
In a media interaction before the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Horschel spoke about the LIV Golf players who left the PGA Tour. The 8-time PGA Tour winner mentioned that he holds some grudges and detailed his answer.
Horschel said (via Golf Magic):
"Time allows things to dissipate. We've seen that through history. I'm sure there's people that still hold grudges and everything. Personally I still hold a few grudges, I'm not going to lie. But I understand that for things to get better and heal, you have to get past that and move beyond that. Personally, I've moved on beyond that, but I know some guys, some players probably still hold grudges, but I think we do need to move beyond that to really come together."
He added:
"I do believe that there's been goodwill on both sides to try to make a deal happen over the last 18 months, year, since the agreement. It may not move as quickly as people want. There's a lot of complicated things to figure out and there's a lot of things behind the scenes that the public just don't understand. That they can't comment on."
Two years ago, Billy Horschel went viral for his 20-minute rant against LIV Golf. However, Horschel's opinion about the Saudi-backed tour seems to have changed since then. During a recent media interaction, Horschel claimed he has no issues with LIV Golf or the Saudis.
Billy Horschel commented on PGA Tour chief and PIF governor's pairing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
The DP World Tour's 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship saw some famous celebrities compete. One of the most interesting pairings at the tournament was seen in Carnoustie where PGA Tour chief Jay Monahan was paired with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Billy Horschel spoke about this pairing in a media interaction ahead of the event. Horschel said he hopes fans understand that the pairing of the PGA Tour chief and the PIF governor is a move in the right direction.
Horschel said (via Golf Magic):
"Hopefully, the fans understand by this pairing [Monahan/Al Rumayyan], these groupings that things are moving in the right direction. I do believe now looking at the game of golf, which I could never imagine at that point [2022] sitting there and speaking how I spoke, that the divide that we've created in the game of golf would create such a disinterest in the fans. And that's really who has sort of been hurt by all this."
Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan were also seen embracing at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Horschel was paired in the same group as the PGA Tour chief and the PIF governor.
