"I think is a pity" - Gary Player believes Greg Norman has a vendetta against the PGA Tour

Gary Player is pretty vocal about his opinions and thoughts even when they are against his friends. The 87-year-old golfer is away from the golf course but never from the headlines of the newspaper.

He recently opened up about the CEO of LIV Golf Greg Norman and claimed to have a vendetta against the PGA Tour. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Gary Player said:

"I don’t like 54-hole tournaments, nor the team side of it. Greg has basically had a vendetta against the PGA Tour for a long time. He wanted to start a world tour and was deprived of it. He’s been a bit bitter about that."

He added:

"I think he has let it creep into some of these decisions, which I think is a pity."

The Saudi-backed series has been in the news since its inception. Golfers voiced their thoughts about the controversial series.

Gary Player also spoke about LIV Golf in several of his interviews. In his interview in June 2022, Player said:

"I don't blame them for playing there (LIV). There's not a lot of them who can win on their regular Tour anymore, so they are wisely taking the money."

Now, in his interview with the Daily Mail, he again talked about the tumultuous series and went on to say:

"I don’t blame those who went. Most who left do not believe they can win on the regular tour any more. Louis Oosthuizen is probably the finest gentleman I’ve met in golf and he’s never won a tournament in America, so of course he’s going to take their money. Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith, I was surprised they took the money but that’s their choice."

"He made a few bad decisions" - Gary Player highlights Tiger Woods 'inconceivable' mistakes

Gary Player also spoke about Tiger Woods in his interview with the Daily Mail. He claimed that Woods would have won five more major tournaments without making 'inconceivable' mistakes.

The South African golfer said:

"Tiger Woods was the most talented golfer the planet has ever seen but he made a few bad decisions, which we all do. Having lessons when he won the US Open by 15 shots was inconceivable, if he never went for a lesson he would have won 20 majors minimum and he would have beat Nicklaus’s record."

He went on to add:

"Then we come to Jack Nicklaus, the most majors in the world. I suppose my point is when you talk about the best players, and might I just say I have the best record for worldwide wins, there are many ways you can judge golfers."

It is important to note that Tiger Woods has won 15 major titles in his career and will compete at the upcoming Masters with the hope of wearing the green jacket for the sixth time and matching the record set by Jack Nicklaus.

The Masters is slated to take place from April 6 to April 9 at the Augusta National Golf Club.
