“I've been through a lot in my life”: An emotional Justin Lower reflects on the value of winning the WWT Championship

Justin Lower got emotional while talking to the media after the third round of the WWT (World Wide Technology) Championship. The American golfer took the lead at the ongoing PGA Tour event and is in contention to win his first Tour event.

After three rounds, he was tied with Nico Echavarria and Carson Young. Following Saturday's round, Lower opened up about his performance and what it means to him if he wins the tournament. He said with tears in his eyes:

"Everything," and then added. "I don't know. I have no idea, honestly. I told myself I'm going to stop doing eventually this in interviews, but I worked really hard in this game. I work really hard at it. Sometimes I think I never would have gotten this far. I've been through a lot in my life, and it's just... I don't know it's just a lot of fun."

Notably, Justin Lower shot 63 on Saturday to jump 14 spots on the leaderboard to take the lead in the game. Meanwhile, Echavarria extended his lead even after the third round and is seeking the second win of the season after winning the 2024 Zozo Championship last month. Young shot 67 on Saturday and also tied for the lead. Joe Highsmith, Max Greyserman, and Austin Eckroat tied for fourth place at 14-under.

A look into Justin Lower's performance at the 2024 WWT Championship

Lower had a rough start at the WWT Championship with a round of 70. He struggled with his game in the opening round and shot a double bogey on the 12th hole. He carded two birdies and a double bogey on the front nine and four birdies and two bogeys on the back nine for a round of 2-under 70.

In the second round, he shot 5-under 67 with six birdies and a bogey. He was pretty impressive in the third round and played a bogey-free round. He started on the first hole with a birdie, then added a birdie on the fourth and another on the sixth. He carded four birdies on the back nine and an eagle on the 18th for a 9-under 63. He was tied for the lead at 16-under. The PGA Tour event will have its finale on Sunday, November 10.

Having turned professional in 2011, Justin Lower has only two victories. He won the Ohio Open in 2012 and again in 2015. He was close to a win on the Korn Ferry Tour at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open in 2019 but lost to Vince Covello in a playoff.

If he wins this week at the WWT Championship, it would be his first win in around nine years. This season on the PGA Tour, Lower has played in 28 events and made the cut in 20 of them. He recorded three finishes in the top-10.
