Is Tiger Woods playing in the inaugural Black Desert Championship?
The final field for the inaugural Black Desert Championship was decided on Monday, October 7. However, Tiger Woods is not among the 132 players scheduled for the third event of the FedEx Cup Fall.
The first-ever Black Desert Championship will take place at Black Desert Resort Golf Course in Ivins, Utah, from Thursday, October 10 to Sunday, October 13. The purse for this event will be $7.6 million, with the winner bagging $1.35 million.
The 15-time Major champion had clarified earlier that the Open Championship would be his last event of the season.
"I've only got one more tournament this season," he said during the US Open. "I don't think even if I win the British Open I don't think I'll be in the Playoffs. Just one more event and then I'll come back whenever I come back."
The 48-year-old golfer also underwent back surgery last month to address his back issues.
Although Tiger Woods is not available at the Black Desert Championship, the playing field will feature several notable names in action. Here are a few top names competing this week:
- Keith Mitchell
- Nick Taylor
- Daniel Berger
- Kurt Kitayama
- Beau Hossler
- Seamus Power
- Chris Kirk
How did Tiger Woods perform at his last official event of the season?
Tiger Woods last played at the Open Championship, where he missed the cut after shooting 79 and 77. This was his third straight missed cut of the season and his third missed cut in the past six Open Championships.
The 82-time PGA Tour winner played in all four Majors this year, marking the first time in five years he has done so. However, his performance was not much to boast about, as he failed to make the cut in three of them. He did make it to the weekend of the Masters Tournament for the record 24th straight time.
Woods has participated in the PNC Championship for the past few years. However, this time his participation will depend on his recovery after back surgery. Besides, he will also host the Hero World Challenge, one of the two events he hosts on the PGA Tour.
Tiger Woods has been in a title drought for five seasons now. His last win came in 2019 at the Zozo Championship. For the uninitiated, he needs one more win to surpass Sam Snead as the winningest player on the PGA Tour.
