“It blends in” - Scottie Scheffler gives his take on the ‘unusual’ house in the middle of Royal Troon Golf Club
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler opened up about the usually private residence in the middle of Royal Troon. A unique Blackrock house is located in the middle of the venue for this week's Major.
Ahead of the commencement of the Open Championship, Scheffler held a press conference in which the American golfer shared his thoughts on the house. He said (via The R&A YouTube channel):
"I have seen the house. I think it would be more unusual if there wasn't all the stuff built around. It blends in. I think if I came here 6 months from now on all the tents and all the build outs gone I think it would be a lot more unusual. But I've only seen the place with massive grand stands and stuff. So it's hard to really tell how much it stands out out there." (15:24-15:44)
This unique Blackrock house is reportedly named after the rocks found in that area. It is a two-storied house that has been there for over 250 years. The house is located exactly in the middle of five holes, making it easy for houseowners to enjoy the action from the windows of the house on the second, third, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes.
It's a four-bedroom house with four reception rooms and two bathrooms. The property is split into two halves, each with different owners. One half is owned by David and Isabel Kelly, who have put their side of the property up for sale, while the other half belongs to Paul and Cath Gregory.
"You have to be more creative here"- Scottie Scheffler on playing at Royal Troon
Scottie Scheffler has been fabulous with his game back home in the USA. He has won six tournaments this season, including the Masters. After his incredible run on the PGA Tour, the two-time Major winner traveled to Scotland for the Open Championship, hoping to carry the same form this week and clinch another Major trophy.
During the press conference for the Major, Scheffler discussed the conditions at Royal Troon and his strategy for playing at the venue. The American golfer stated that creativity is key to success on the course.
Speaking about the golf course, he said:
"You have to be more creative here. I love that part of it. I feel like, when I do come over here, this is really how golf was intended to be played."(1:25-1:33)
Additionally, he opened up about the differences between American golf courses and Royal Troon. He added:
“The links golf is obviously different than what we play at home, so getting used to the firmness of the fairways, getting used to the bunkering and the speed of the greens is obviously different as well."(2:49-2:56)
Scottie Scheffler will enter the field for the Major as the experts' favorite for the week. According to Bet365, with odds of +450, Scheffler is the best bet for the tournament. The 2024 Open Championship will start on Thursday, July 18, at the Royal Troon Golf Course.
