"It was a horrible place" - Matt Kuchar explains the emotion behind returning to the Wyndham Championship on Monday to finish his round
Matt Kuchar explained his reasons for returning to play the final hole of the 2024 Wyndham Championship on Monday. The PGA Tour event was scheduled to conclude on Sunday, August 11, but Kuchar opted to complete half of the final hole on Monday while his group members finished their rounds on Sunday.
His decision drew criticism from the golf world, and after finishing his game on Monday, Kuchar addressed the media to explain his choice. He made par on the 18th hole after returning to play and later explained his decission to the press. Speaking to the media, the American golfer said (via PGA Tour on X at 1:29):
"Nobody wants to do that; we all want to get it done. So yeah, you hit the tee shot and kind of decide from there. I mean, you guys saw the predicament I was in. It was.....a horrible place. Had it been a standard shot, I most likely would have proceeded. I was excited that at least they got, Aaron Rai got to finish got to do the award ceremony. I think that would have really stunk had Aaron not cemented the win."
