“It’s honestly psychotic how good he is with that swing” – Fans react to Scottie Scheffler’s unconventional swing at the BMW Championship

Scottie Scheffler is one of the favorites to win the BMW Championship at Castle Rock Golf Club. Scheffler finished the first round at 1-under, tied for 13th after Thursday, August 22.

On several occasions during the day, Scheffler used his trademark footwork while swinging. It is so popular now that the move is known as the "Scheffler Shuffle". One such instance was posted on the PGA Tour's X account, generating several reactions from fans.

One X user wrote:

Another user said:

"The fact this swing is the number 1 golfer in the world makes us question everything we have ever been taught about swing tips"

Let's take a look at some other reactions on X:

"He looks like a MLB hitter swinging out of his spikes! Love it!," a fan said.
"I love his ballet recital havin ass swing," another user posted.
"No conventional....but highly effective," another wrote.
"Balance is not his forte," a user commented.

Despite his unconventional swing, Scottie Scheffler is one of the best ball-strikers in the world right now. He is the PGA Tour's leading player of the season in "Strokes Gained (SG): Tee-to-Green" (2,667), "SG: Approach the Green" (1,444) and "Greens in Regulation Percentage" (73.46%).

He also ranks third in "SG: Off the tee" (0.842) and 11th in "SG: Around the green" (0.381).

A look at Scottie Scheffler's performance in the first round of the BMW Championship.

The BMW Championship is played in unusual conditions, with the Castle Pines Golf Club sitting at an elevation of over 6,200 feet, well above average for a PGA Tour tournament. Scottie Scheffler had a tough time adjusting to the venue.

Scheffler started the round with pars on the first 10 holes, followed by back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. Inconsistency then kicked in, as a birdie was sandwiched between bogeys on the 13th and 15th. He finished the round with par on the last three holes.

His score of 1-under puts him in a share of T13 with one round to play, four shots behind transition leader Keegan Bradley. Scheffler is currently tied with 10 other players, including fellow favorites Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

Thanks to Scheffler's huge lead in the FedEx Cup standings (more than 1,500 points over second place), he is in no danger of missing the TOUR Championship" the final event in the playoffs. All he has to do is finish without injury at Castle Pines.

The situation is completely different at the TOUR Championship. Despite Scheffler's big lead in the standings, the rules dictate that whoever wins the final event of the season is the FedEx Cup champion. Therefore, he needs to win at East Lake next week to take home the FedEx Cup.
