“It’s obviously still pretty raw for me” – Tyrrell Hatton says his LIV Golf team win does not ‘soften the blow’ of his individual loss

Tyrrell Hatton was in contention to win the 2024 LIV Golf UK event, but a bogey on the 18th hole cost him the title. Although Hatton did not win, his team, Legion XIII, emerged victorious in the tournament.

During the press conference after the event, Hatton was asked if the team's victory "softened the blow" of his individual loss. He clearly stated that it did not. While he was happy for the team, he was disappointed with the individual result. The English golfer was especially disheartened to bogey the concluding hole while playing on his home course.

"To be honest, no. It's obviously still pretty raw for me as an individual. It's hard to put that to one side. Golf is generally an individual sport. And ultimately, your individual results will reflect what happens within the team," Hatton said. [01:35]
"So, I'm really happy that the guys had a solid weekend and that we won our fourth event as a team, but it doesn't change how I feel towards my own individual performance. And it sucks to bogey the last in front of your home crowd to effectively miss out on a playoff. So, that's unfortunately the reality of my situation at the moment," he added.

Tyrrell Hatton's teammate and Legion XIII captain, Jon Rahm won the LIV Golf UK event. Rahm shot a 67 in the final round to secure a one-stroke victory over Hatton, Joaquin Niemann and Cameron Smith. It was Rahm's first win on the circuit.

Paul Casey secured the solo fifth spot, while Cameron Tringale, Matt Wolff, Talor Gooch, Louis Oosthuizen and Andy Ogletree tied for sixth place, followed by Bryson DeChambeau, Charl Schwartzel and David Puig, who tied for 11th place.

"Until you actually experience it, you don't know" - Tyrrell Hatton on LIV Golf's format

Apart from the presence of teams, the LIV Golf events also feature a limited field and consist of only 54 holes without any cutline, unlike golf events on other circuits. During the aforementioned press conference, Tyrrell Hatton was asked about his experience of playing in such a format. He said:

"Well, I mean, I think until you actually experience it, you don't know how you are going to react. I don't think how I'm feeling now is any different to how any other player in the league would be feeling. I don't know what else to say to that." [at 10:16]

Hatton joined LIV Golf earlier this year, becoming a member of Jon Rahm's Legion XIII team. So far, he has competed in 11 events and had strong finishes on the circuit, including winning his maiden event in Nashville last month. He finished third at the Andalucía event before securing the second spot in the recently concluded LIV Golf UK event.
