“It sucks. Losing is never fun” - Bryson DeChambeau gets candid after LIV Golf teammate lost to Sergio Garcia in Valderrama
Bryson DeChambeau had a candid reaction to his teammate Anirban Lahiri's loss against Sergio Garcia in LIV Golf Andalucia. He said that losing was no fun, but it was what made winning look better.
On Sunday, July 14, Sergio Garcia claimed his maiden LIV title at the Real Club Valderrama after beating Anirban Lahiri in a sudden-death extra hole. Ahead of the final round, Lahiri and his team, Crushers GC, were leading the table in their sections. However, Lahiri struggled, shooting a 73 in the final round, while the Spaniard shot an even-par 71 to force the playoff.
Garcia won the playoff comfortably, securing both his and his team, Fireballs GC's, first-ever LIV Golf win. Following his team's loss, Crushers' captain DeChambeau consoled Lahiri.
"It sucks. Losing is never fun," he said as per Mirror Sports. "That's what makes winning so much better. I feel for Baan."
DeChambeau and Paul Casey played the playoff hole in the team section but lost to Abraham Ancer and David Puig, handing Fireballs their first win.
This victory marks Sergio Garcia's first professional win in four years, with his last victory coming on the PGA Tour at the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship. With this win, Garcia has jumped to third in the individual standings, while his team, Fireballs, is in sixth place.
As for Bryson DeChambeau, he finished ninth in the singles portion after aggregating at 1-under. He is currently sitting in 9th place in the individual standings, while his team, Crushers GC, is at the top of the leaderboard with 161 points, thanks to two wins and three runner-up finishes.
What's next for Bryson DeChambeau?
Bryson DeChambeau will next compete at the Open Championship, which will take place at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. The event will be played from Thursday, July 18, to Sunday, July 21. This is the tenth time the tournament will be held at Royal Troon.
Speaking of the Open Championship, DeChambeau has made six starts so far and missed only two cuts. However, he has only one top-ten finish, which was a T8 two years ago.
DeChambeau has had a solid season so far, clearly standing out as the best LIV Golf player in the majors. He won the US Open, finished runner-up at the PGA Championship, and tied for 12th at the Masters Tournament. He will be hoping to close his major season with a great finish at the Open Championship.
