"It was trying to flutter"- Scottie Scheffler details 'entertaining' bug affair as he catches it by both wings at FedEx St. Jude Championship
Scottie Scheffler is ruthless on the golf course but otherwise a soft-natured person. This was showcased once again during the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship when he carefully removed a bug that was sitting on his ball.
On Friday, August 16, Scheffler carded a 5-under 65 to reach an aggregate of 9-under after 36 holes. He jumped six spots after the second round to finish in fourth place, just two strokes behind the leader after Day 2 at TPC Southwind.
During the post-round interview, Scheffler was asked about the bug incident. The World No. 1 golfer couldn't identify the bug but said he picked it up by the wings and removed it gently.
"It was entertaining because I grabbed both of its wings very gently," he said. "I was able to grab it off the ball and it was trying to flutter as I had it by its wings so you could kind of feel it moving. I just wanted to make sure I put it away from my ball so it wouldn't be going back on my ball."
Reflecting on his performance, Scottie Scheffler said it was good to go bogey-free.
"I did a good job of having some nice up-and-downs to kind of keep the momentum and the round going," he said. "I holed a nice putt for par early in the round on 5 and then I had a couple nice chips after that getting it close to the hole making what could have been a stressful par into a pretty stress-free par with some nice pitches. Overall it was a pretty good day," he added.
