“It was a two-man effort to get that taken care of” - Rachel Rohanna stops play to change her daughter during the U.S. Open first round
During the opening round of the US Women's Open, Rachel Rohanna found herself in a situation where she had to fulfill her motherly duties amid the game. She had to change her daughter's diaper after a bathroom incident with the help of her husband.
Rachel Rohanna is playing her fourth US Women's Open after earning her spot as a sectional qualifier. On Thursday, May 30, she fired a 6-over 76 in the opening round and was tied for 96th. During the round, she was accompanied by her husband, Ethan Virgili, and her children, Gemelia and Greenlee.
During the post-round interview, Rohanna narrated the whole incident. She said, as per ASAP Sports:
"There was a back up with the playing and then there was, you know, the opposite of a back up in the stroller. There was like I think four groups or something on the tee box. I was talking to my husband and looked down and happened to see that my youngest was just -- went to the bathroom all over the place.
"I was like, Ethan, so I brought them inside the ropes and we went into a roped off area and changed her. It was a two-man effort to get that taken care of.
The 33-year-old American golfer was initially doubtful if she should call Ethan inside the ropes but then did it anyway as it was not a one-person effort.
Speaking of the round, Rohanna struggled to make even one birdie on Thursday. Instead, she bogeyed six holes to end the round two spots below the projected cutline.
