J.T. Poston enters top 50 of the world ranking after 3rd win at Shriners Children’s Open

Following his win at the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open, J.T. Poston has entered the top 50 in the latest OWGR update. He climbed 20 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking to reach 40th, his best ranking since March.

Poston was ranked 64th in the world before arriving at TPC Summerlin and had been somewhat out of form lately. Since the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he had only two top-10 finishes and missed four cuts, which caused his ranking to plummet.

However, this week, Poston displayed incredible consistency across all four rounds of the Shriners Children’s Open. He began with a 64, followed by rounds of 65 and 66, taking a three-stroke lead after 54 holes. On Sunday, October 20, he fired a 4-under 67 to finish at 22-under, securing a one-shot victory over Doug Ghim.

At the start of the 2024 PGA Tour season, the 31-year-old golfer was ranked 43rd in the OWGR. With three top-10 finishes in his first six starts, he jumped to 36th, but he couldn’t maintain that momentum. His form dipped in the following events, leading to his worst ranking in two years.

This was J.T. Poston's third win on the PGA Tour and first in two years. His first win had come at the Wyndham Championship in 2019. This was followed by the John Deere Classic 2022.

The Sunday win has helped J.T. Poston earn exemptions for the Masters Tournament as well as the PGA Championship next season. Notably, he was already qualified for all eight Signature events after finishing 43rd in the FedEx Cup.

Poston missed just five cuts in 24 starts this season and registered five top-ten finishes. Besides the win at the Shriners Children's Open, he also had T5 finishes at the Sentry and the RBC Heritage.
