Japan’s women’s Olympic golf star says Hideki Matsuyama’s ‘unique’ one-hand shots shows ‘high expectations to himself’
In the 2024 Paris Olympics, Japan will be represented by Miyu Yamashita and Yuka Saso from August 7 to 10 at Le Golf National. Before the match tees off on Wednesday, the women joined a presser and reflected upon Hideki Matsuyama’s Olympic performance, where he represented Japan and bagged the bronze medal.
Miyu Yamashita talked about how Hideki Matsuyama's one-hand shots showed professionalism at the Olympics. She also added that his shots displayed his high expectations.
“I've seen and it's showing how high his self-expectations are and showing his professionalism, I think. It's very unique to see. But it's showing his high expectations to himself,” Miyu Yamashita said ( via ASAP Sports).
In the same interview, Miyu Yamashita and Yuka Saso were asked about their thoughts on Matsuyama winning the bronze medal at the Olympics and their notion about the golf course.
“I was here early but I wasn't able to watch Matsuyamasan's finishing holes. I was already playing ready, looking at the course. I'm happy that he got the medal and I'm pretty sure he is, too. He worked hard to get that. Hopefully I can continue that,” Yuka Saso said.
Yamashita added, “It was first time to watch Matsuyamasan on the golf course…I saw his passion, hard wash and motivation for him winning a medal. After him winning the Bronze Medal, I talked to Hideki, congratulated him and he texted back to me, the women's Japan team, it's the goal, get the Gold Medal. I'll do my best this week and try my hardest.”
Hideki Matsuyama won the bronze medal at the Olympics with 17-under 267. He dropped eight birdies in the first round, followed by seven birdies in the second round. In the third round, he dropped three birdies and in the fourth round, he carded six birdies.
