Jason Day reminisces wild party days with the International Team at the Presidents Cup- "We got smashed Sunday night"

Jason Day is back on the International Team for the Presidents Cup after a seven-year absence. But time has not made him forget the good times he had during his previous appearances at the event.

The Australian proved this during his pre-event press conference. Asked by a reporter to share his fondest memory of his last appearance at the Presidents Cup, Day recounted the days of partying that week.

That was part of Jason Day's answer:

"Usually it's the Sunday night -- well, we got smashed Sunday night and they got smashed again the next Sunday night. Those are the ones we remember. We definitely party a lot better than the other guys I feel like."

Jason Day's most recent appearance at the Presidents Cup was in the 2017 edition, played at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey. There, he scored 1.5 points in five matches, with one win, three losses and one draw.

Day had previously played in three other editions of the event (2011, 2013, 2015). His best performance came in 2013, when he scored 3.5 points in five matches, with three wins, one loss and one draw.

Jason Day's overall record in the Presidents Cup is seven points from 20 matches, with five wins, 11 losses, and four draws.

Jason Day on the challenges facing the International Team: "Just do the job"

During the press conference, Jason Day also spoke about the main challenges facing the International Team at the 2024 Presidents Cup. He said they just have to go out there and compete to the best of their ability.

"The main challenges, I think, just trying to just get out there and just do the job like we can. We're all trying to do something. Like there's no apologies. If you go for a pin and you went for it, you've just got to go out there and compete the best you can."

Day elaborated on how they should focus on their own efforts without worrying about what Team USA might do.

"Just get stuck in your own game, in your own mind. Don't worry about what they [the American Team] are going to do...I think we've just got to stay in our lane a little bit and not try and pay too much attention to it and just play."

Day qualified for the International Team as the fifth-highest ranked player on the internal leaderboard. It is another sign of the resurgence in his career since last season, when he returned to the PGA Tour winner's circle for the first time in more than five years.

The Australian was as high as world number one in 2015, but his level dropped dramatically after 2018. However, Day gradually regained the quality of his game and the 2022 - 2023 season saw the results.

In 2023, Day won the AT&T Byron Nelson and the unofficial Grant Thornton Invitational, teaming up with Lydia Ko. He also tied for second at the Open Championship, his first top-10 finish at a major championship in three years.
