Jim Furyk dismisses claims of Tiger Woods having any input in Presidents Cup team

U.S. Team Captain Jim Furyk has refuted claims that Tiger Woods was involved in picking the Presidents Cup team. He stated that despite their long-standing friendship, he did not discuss the picks with the ace golfer.

Jim Furyk is set to lead Team USA for the first time at the Presidents Cup. The sixteenth edition of the biennial event will take place in Montreal, Canada, later this month.

On Tuesday, September 3, during the Presidents Cup media conference, Furyk was asked if he sought Tiger Woods' insights in selecting the team this time.

"No, I did not," he refuted. "Tiger and I have been friendly over the years, but I didn't give him a call to talk about the picks at all. I think Australia is probably the last time he sat in as one of the captains, I believe. I'm sure Davis leaned on him a little bit for Charlotte, but from afar."

Why is Tiger Woods not part of the 2024 Presidents Cup squad?

Tiger Woods is not part of the 2024 Presidents Cup for several reasons. First, he was not among the top-ranked in the US team standings. However, the main reason is that the ace golfer has stopped being a regular feature on the PGA Tour. After his recent struggles with injuries and fitness issues, Woods decided to cut down his schedule and now hardly plays outside of the major championships.

The 48-year-old golfer is arguably the greatest ever, but his record in the Ryder Cup is quite abysmal. However, that's not the case at the Presidents Cup as he holds a record of 27-15-1. Those 27 wins are the most by any player in the event's history.

Woods is 8-9-0 in fourball and 12-4-1 in foursomes. His singles record is even better, standing at 7-2-0, the best of any player.

Woods made his Presidents Cup debut in 1998 and has made nine appearances at the event over the years. His final appearance at the event was in 2019 when he was also the team's captain.

His best performance came in 2009 when he went 5-0-0. In 2019, he became the first playing captain for the US since 1994 and went 3-0-0 at the tournament.
