Joaquin Niemann inspired by $42.3M-worth Tennis icon for LIV Golf Virginia win

Joaquin Niemann opened up about who inspired him to win the 2025 LIV Golf Virginia event. The Chilean golfer made a remarkable comeback in the final round of the Saudi league event after struggling in the first two rounds to finally win the tournament.

Unfortunately, rain delayed the Sunday tournament, but despite the challenges, he seized the victory. In the post-round press conference, Joaquin Niemann was asked about his mindset and what helped him win the event.

In response, the Torque GC captain credited Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who recently won the French Open. Alcaraz bounced back in the game to win after five hours and twenty-nine minutes — the longest ever Roland Garros final in tennis.

Reflecting on his victory, Joaquin Niemann said that he got "some inspiration from Carlos Alcaraz", who has a net worth of $42.3 million (via Forbes).

"I feel like I got some inspiration from Carlos Alcaraz, to be honest," Niemann said (via ASAP Sports). "I was watching his game, and it was pretty good to see that he was three match points of losing the match, and being able to bring that back into the match and being able to win, it was pretty cool.
"I felt like I was able to sit down in the locker room by myself, was Mito there and my brother, so I was just chilling there in the locker room and watching Carlos Alcaraz making that," he added.

Joaquin Niemann started the game with an opening round of 4-under at the LIV Golf Virginia and then played the next two rounds of 3-under and 8-under to settle with a total of 15-under. He registered a one-stroke win over Graeme McDowell and Anirban Lahiri.

Joaquin Niemann shares his excitement to play at the US Open 2025

Joaquin Niemann is next heading to play at the US Open 2025. He had an incredible outing a week before the year’s third major and is now looking forward to his outing in the Major.

In the post-round press conference of LIV Golf Virginia, the Chilean golfer revealed that he is looking forward to playing for the first time at Oak Hill Country Club. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"I mean, I feel like it's just another golf tournament. I've got to figure out stuff in my game and got to improve, like I said before, my driving. I feel like next week is going to be a good challenge. I feel like this is going to be a good preparation for what's coming.
"I actually haven't been to Oakmont before. It's going to be my first time. I've got to go there on Monday, see what it is, and then see what I expect. More than that, I don't have many more expectations," he added.

Notably, only 14 LIV golfers have qualified for the US Open 2025, including the defending champion Bryson DeChambeau, along with Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and others.
