John Catlin replaces Graeme McDowell at LIV Golf Greenbrier after latter's rare suspension scenario

John Catlin will replace Graeme McDowell at the 2024 LIV Golf Greenbrier event. McDowell was suspended from LIV Golf for using a nasal decongestant that contained substances banned on the circuit.

After failing the series’ anti-doping policy, McDowell was suspended for one match and fined $125,000. Additionally, his results from the LIV Golf Nashville event were disqualified.

As players gear up for the upcoming LIV Golf event, it has been announced that John Catlin will take McDowell’s place at the Greenbrier event. Smash GC announced the news on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

"Stepping in and stepping up! John Catlin is ready to bring it as he fills in for Graeme McDowell at LIV Golf Greenbrier."

Notably, Graeme McDowell admitted to his suspension and released a statement about it on his social media accounts. He wrote:

"As a professional golfer, I understand the importance of checking all medications and the option to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). Unfortunately, I did not take the time to do this due to the over-the-counter nature of this medicine, and deeply regret the oversight. I fully accept the sanctions imposed by LIV."

The 2024 LIV Golf Greenbrier event will take place from August 16 to 18 at The Old White at The Greenbrier and Bryson DeChambeau will return to defend his title this week.
