Jon Rahm changes his X profile picture, reiterates LIV Golf commitment with new one

Last year, Jon Rahm defected to LIV Golf and made the news official by posting a picture with Greg Norman on Instagram that showed the two of them shaking hands. Since then, Rahm has been playing in the LIV league and is the captain of his LIV team, Legion XIII.

The team's other three members are Tyrell Hatton, Kieran Vincent, and Caleb Surratt. Rahm used his X handle to reiterate his commitment to LIV following more than six months of involvement. Rahm changed his profile picture to the logo of his team, Legion XIII.

Talking about the inspiration behind his LIV team's name, Rahm said that it came from his favorite Asterix & Obelix comics. In the comic, the Legion XIII army unsuccessfully tried to invade a village several times. The persistence of the Legion XIII army was one of the factors that influenced Rahm's decision to come up with a name for his team.

Rahm added that he was inspired to include the lion in the team's logo by his passion for Athletic Bilbao, a soccer team that goes by the name Lions.

Jon Rahm has participated in ten LIV events thus far, placing in the top ten in nine of them. He withdrew from LIV Golf Houston. Rahm is currently competing at the LIV Golf United Kingdom, which will announce the winner on Sunday.

Why did Jon Rahm join LIV Golf?

Jon Rahm spoke candidly last year about his family's support of his career decisions and why he chose to join LIV Golf.

“Every decision I feel like we make in life there will be somebody who agrees and likes it and somebody who doesn’t, right. I made this decision because I believe it’s the best for me and my family and everybody I’ve been able to talk to has been really supportive of me,” Rahm said (via Golf Week).
He continued, “So I’m very comfortable with my decision. I’m no stranger to hearing some negative things on social media or in media. It’s part of what it is, we’re public figures but you just learn to deal with it right? This certainly won’t define who I am or change who I am.”

Rahm doesn't play on the PGA Tour regularly but has featured at the Majors. He skipped the 2024 US Open, and his best finish was at the Open Championship in Royal Troon. He finished at T7 after the fourth round. He also played at the Masters Tournament, where he landed a T45 finish. Rahm missed the cutline at the PGA Championship. However, the Spaniard will not be present at the FedEx playoffs as he defected to the breakaway LIV Golf League.
