Jon Rahm gets labeled a 'competitive irrelevance' by golf commentator, months after branding him an 'arsonist'

The 2024 season has not been the best for Spanish golfer Jon Rahm. While Rahm hasn't been able to win a single event on the LIV Golf Tour, his performances in the Majors this season have also not been up to the mark. This particular aspect of his game was recently highlighted by a golf commentator.

Ahead of The Open Championship, golf commentator Eamon Lynch called Jon Rahm a "competitive irrelevance." Lynch mentioned that Rahm's game just hasn't been there and added that perhaps it was a coincidence it happened after Rahm joined LIV Golf.

The Golf Channel analyst said (as quoted by Express UK):

"To me, the biggest story is Jon Rahm. I know he withdrew from Pinehurst with a foot injury earlier that week but he's been a competitive irrelevance in the major championships so far this year. A guy who won The Masters and contended in two other major championships [last year] and was such a storyline every time we went to a major championship. The game just hasn't been there. Perhaps it's a coincidence that it's happened after he went to LIV Golf."

In a separate interview in May this year, Eamon Lynch had labeled Jon Rahm as an 'arsonist.' After Rahm said he wanted to see the world of golf come together, Lynch called him an 'arsonist' and said:

"It’s not often you hear the arsonists give advice to the firefighters of how to extinguish the blaze."

When it comes to the Majors this season, Jon Rahm finished T45 at the 2024 Masters and failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship. While he was set to play at the US Open, Rahm had to withdraw due to a foot injury.
