Jon Rahm rates his LIV Golf season so far, reveals where he has fallen short: "It could have been better"
Jon Rahm rocked the golf world when he signed to play in LIV Golf in December 2023. Expectations of the sporting results he could have in the breakaway league were very high, but the Spaniard has not been able to win there to date.
Rahm is in his homeland, Spain, to play the LIV Golf Andalucia at the Real Club Valderrama, starting next Friday, July 12. From the venue of the event, he offered a press conference in which he was asked to rate his season to date.
This was part of what Rahm said (via Flushing It):
"There's been weeks where I feel like I scored a lot better than I felt, and there's been a couple weeks where it could have been better. Haven't won yet so that would deduct quite a bit from it."
Rahm added:
"I would say maybe 6 to a 7 out of 10 if I had to say. But the year is not over. Still a lot to play for. It would not be unheard of to see a player finish strong and change that to maybe a 9 out of 10. So far just because I haven't won, I can't give it more than a 7." [0:03 - 0:37]
Jon Rahm's most recent professional victory came more than a year ago when he won The Masters Tournament 2023. However, the team he captains, Legion XIII, has won three tournaments during the current LIV Golf season.
Jon Rahm's 2024 Season at a Glance
Jon Rahm entered the 2024 season as one of LIV Golf's biggest stars. Rahm came to LIV Golf with 11 PGA Tour victories, including two majors, in just seven seasons as a professional.
The Spaniard made his LIV Golf debut at the Mayakoba event, where he tied for third at 3-under. He finished in the top 10 the rest of the season (he withdrew from the Houston event):
- Mayakoba 3rd (-10)
- Las Vegas 8th (-8)
- Jeddah 5th (-11)
- Hong Kong 8th (-10)
- Miami 4th (-8)
- Adelaide 3rd -(16)
- Singapore 10th (-9)
- Houston WD
- Nashville 3rd (-12)
His Legion XIII team has won three times (Mayakoba, Miami, and Nashville). The team is completed by Tyrrell Hatton, Caleb Surratt, and Kieran Vincent.
Rahm has also played in two of the three majors this season. He finished T45 at the Masters Tournament with a score of 9-under, while he missed the cut at the PGA Championship with a score of even par after 36 holes.
Rahm was unable to play in the U.S. Open due to a foot injury, the same injury that forced him to withdraw from LIV Golf Houston. The Spaniard is expected to play in the Open Championship, the final major of the season.
