Jordan Spieth picks Bryson DeChambeau to top list of greatest rounds he's ever witnessed

Bryson DeChambeau has played several spectacular rounds throughout his career. In fact, one of the rounds signed by the newly crowned US Open champion is the best ever witnessed by three-time Major champion Jordan Spieth.

Spieth has witnessed two sub-60 rounds (Justin Thomas, 59, 2017 Sony Open and Cameron Young, 59, 2024 Travelers Championship). However, DeChambeau's 60 at the 2021 BMW Championship is the one that has impressed him the most.

Answering questions from The Mirror on the subject, Jordan Spieth explained his choice as follows:

"I would say Bryson [DeChambeau] that day because it was a par 72. That might be the answer on those three rounds."

He added:

“I remember thinking both Cam [Young] and Justin [Thomas] were right in it at the beginning. There’s definitely an argument for JT because he knew he needed eagle (on the final hole) and made a 15-foot slider. That’s a little bit different. That was the most clutch of the three."

Less than a year ago, Bryson DeChambeau carded a score of 58 during the third round of the 2023 LIV Golf Greenbrier. DeChambeau's performance is even more impressive when you consider that he made a bogey during his record round, as well as the fact that the day before he had posted a score of 61.

Remembering Bryson DeChambeau's round of 60 at the 2021 BMW Championship

Bryson DeChambeau played the second round of the 2021 BMW Championship in a group that also included Harris English and Jordan Spieth. They were exceptional witnesses to DeChambeau's performance that day.

DeChambeau started the round with two consecutive birdies on the first two holes, after which he parred the 3rd, eagled the 4th and birdied the 5th. He made another par on the 6th and then made consecutive birdies on the 7th and 8th. He closed with a par on the 9th to leave the front nine at 7 under 29.

The back nine was no less spectacular. DeChambeau opened with par on the 10th and then birdied the 11th and 12th. He bested the 13th, 14th and 15th with par-birdie-par, and then made his second eagle of the round on the 16th. DeChambeau parred the final two holes to set his score at 12-under 60.

During that round, DeChambeau exhibited exceptional green-reaching skills. He hit only 50% of the fairways (7 of 14), reached 16 of 18 greens in regulation (88.89%). This allowed him to gain 4.864 strokes in approaching the green.

The other area of play in which he excelled was putting. During that round, DeChambeau used only 1.44 putts per green in regulation. In addition, he three-putted no holes and two-putted only seven. This allowed him to gain 3.039 strokes in putting.

DeChambeau finished the event tied for first with Patrick Cantlay at 27-under. He eventually lost to Cantlay after a five-hole playoff.
