Jordan Spieth reveals being on 'Happy Gilmore 2' with other PGA Tour pros - “It was wildly entertaining”
Jordan Spieth would be part of Happy Gilmore along with several other PGA Tour golfers. The 1996 American sports comedy officially renewed for the second installment, starring Adam Sandler in the lead role. The first part was a big hit, and fans are anxiously waiting for the second part. Intriguingly, people will see several professional players in the series.
On Wednesday, December 4, Jordan Spieth appeared on an episode of SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, where he spoke about his role in Happy Gilmore 2. Moreover, he revealed several other names, including Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, and Rickie Fowler, could also be part of the series. Speaking of the movie, he said (0:15):
"When I was up there it was like Lee Trevino, Nicklaus, Freddie, we had Corey Pavin. In our scene next to me was Rickie and Collin and Xander and Keegan. So, I mean, yeah, it was really fun. It was super cool to see. There's a lot of other guys that were there before and after that have bigger parts. But it was just, it was wildly entertaining. I'm interested to see what comes out of it," Spieth said.
"I'm not actually sure how much I'm allowed to say to be honest, but it was something that, I mean, I was such a fan. Weren't we all growing up? Like, people who don't know golf are like, ‘Oh, have you ever seen Happy Gilmore?’ And it's like, well, we get the opportunity I'm gonna go try and be in it," he added.
Notably, the movie also stars two-time Major winner John Daly. The American golfer revealed in his interview with Mike Gunzelman about the filming for the movie earlier in September 2024. He said (0:03):
"I've already filmed it already, we're going to get it done. It's coming out on Netflix maybe in March or April of next year."
The first part stars actors Adam Sandler, along with Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Carl Weathers. For the second part, Sandler will reprise his titular character alongside McDonald and Bowen, who are returning for the second part. Benito Martinez Ocasio will also be part of Happy Gilmore 2.
Along with the actors, fans will also be seeing some professional golfers making guest appearances.
Jordan Spieth starred in Netflix’s Full Swing
Jordan Spieth's appearance in Happy Gilmore 2 will not be the first time fans will see him on screen, as the former Masters winner previously featured in the popular Netflix golf series, Full Swing. The series features some top-ranked golfers, including Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Wyndham Clark, and Tom Kim, among others.
The first season of the show heavily features Spieth and his friendship with Thomas. The first episode of season 1, titled "Frenemies", revolves around Spieth and Thomas and their journey of playing golf together, along with their struggles and ups and downs. The synopsis of the episode says (via Netflix):
"Childhood best friends Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas become fierce rivals as they battle to win on the PGA Tour."
It’s a 49-minute episode, which is available to watch on Netflix and was aired in February 2023.
