He shot a 2-under round to tie for 90th place as he began his journey at the tournament.

Following the first round, Jordan Spieth discussed his recent performance while talking to the media. The former Masters winner shared his experience of playing on various golf courses. He said (via Golf Channel's YouTube):

"I think I play the hole, and I'd be like man, we've been playing a lot of difficult golf courses, and I was like, wow, I really probably should have taken that right at the pin. Cause you can just land it by it and stick it there. " (1:15–1:28)

Spieth also commented on his first-round performance at the 2024 John Deere Classic. Despite not starting well, he expressed optimism about the upcoming rounds. He added:

"I felt like I was playing pretty safe to start the round, and then I started to attack a little bit more. But I think I got a little bit behind it to start. So tomorrow, we got some 15 to 20-mile-hour wins. So it's a good thing for me I think to try to go make up some ground. (1:29-1:47)

Notably, Hayden Springer fired a record-breaking 12-under 59 round at the 2024 John Deere Classic to take the lead in the tournament. His performance gave him a two-stroke lead after the first round.
