Justin Rose applauds Xander Schauffele's 'unappreciated' skill that helped him win The 2024 Open Championship

Justin Rose narrowly missed out on victory at The 2024 Open Championship, ultimately finishing in second place alongside Billy Horschel. It was Xander Schauffele who won the Claret Jug this weekend for his second major victory of the year.

Justin Rose was the home favorite at the Royal Troon Golf Club, and received plenty of support at the course. The defeat was a tough one for the Englishman, who still remains in search for his first major in over a decade. Rose was appreciative of Xander Schauffele's skills and did not hesitate to applaud his attributes.

Speaking via Asap Sports, Justin Rose mentioned the one unappreciated ability of Xander Schauffele:

"I think probably one of his most unappreciated ones is his mentality. He's such a calm guy out there. I don't know what he's feeling, but he certainly makes it look very easy. He plays with a freedom, which kind of tells you as a competitor that he's probably not feeling a ton of the bad stuff. He's got a lot of runway ahead and a lot of exciting stuff ahead, I'm sure."

Justin Rose last won the US Open in 2013, but has not taken a major victory since.

Justin Rose gutted to lose The 2024 Open Championship after 'leaving it all out there'

Justin Rose finished second at The 2024 Open after carding rounds of 69-68-73-67 over four days. He remained towards the top of the leaderboard for the majority of the tournament, but ultimately fell just short of Xander Schauffele.

Rose was gutted after missing out on a win at The Open despite having a strong day out on course. Speaking about his emotions after losing, Rose said (via Asap Sports):

"Gutted when I walked off the course and it hit me hard because I was so strong out there today. I kind of got off to the start I wanted. I really played the way I wanted to today. I got off on the front foot. I played my way right into the tournament early doors."

However, Rose also went on to say that he gave it his all, and was proud of the way he had competed this weekend.

"Felt comfortable with it all day. Did a lot of the hard things really well on the golf course today. In terms of how I played and the execution of my emotions today, my mindset, I left it all out there. I'm super proud of how I competed."

The end of The Open Championship has marked the conclusion of all major championships for the 2024 season. The winners of this year's majors are all American golfers, namely Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau.
