Justin Thomas ready for 'crunch time' as he prepares for the birth of his child
Justin Thomas is in Japan for the Zozo Championship this week. Shortly after, he will be back home to prepare for the birth of his first child. The golfer is ready to take on this week's challenges but he knows the real challenge is waiting for him back in the States when he's done playing.
He said (via the PGA Tour):
"Any golf shot or situation I am in this week, it's not going to be anything close to as hard as it's going to be in a month or so when our little one comes. We were very fortunate with the timing of being able to come. For me, being able to come here."
Thomas anticipates that "reality will probably set in" when he's headed home on a plane. He added:
"And then when I get home, because it'll be getting in crunch time. I know my wife's going to be an unbelievable mom and I'm excited for the opportunity to raise a little girl. It's going to be great."
He closed by saying that's in the future, and this week, he is focused on "business and trying to win a golf tournament." Thomas will be joined in the field by several other PGA Tour standouts like Rickie Fowler, Tom Hoge, Min Woo Lee, Sahith Theegala, Xander Schauffele, and Hideki Matsuyama.
Justin Thomas ready to compete in Asia again
Justin Thomas is in Asia this week, a continent where he has historically done well. Of his 15 PGA Tour wins, four have come in Asia. He hasn't been able to play there for several years but he's excited about getting back to where he's had success.
Thomas said (via the PGA Tour):
“Don't worry, I definitely thought about that. I don't know what it is. I played some good golf and won some tournaments kind of this time of year, and I guess in this part of the world. I'm excited to be back and have an opportunity to hopefully get my fifth victory in Asia, at a new place for me.”
He'd like to win this tournament to add to his success and break a little bit of a dry spell but Thomas understands that the real victory is coming next week when his child is due.
Justin Thomas said:
“All I know is I'll be as ready as I possibly can, and we're going to make the most out of every situation we can. It will be a challenge in different ways, but one that we're excited for.”
Thomas is +2000 to win the Zozo Championship behind Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama, and Sungjae Im. Schauffele is the betting favorite per CBS Sports heading into Thursday's tee time.
