Keegan Bradley put ‘in a state of shock’ by the possibility of winning the FedExCup after joining as the last man
Keegan Bradley won the 2024 BMW Championship. The recently appointed Ryder Cup captain closed Sunday’s round with an even-par 72 for a one-shot victory over Ludvig Aberg, Adam Scott and Sam Burns. Notably, he clinched the win after joining the event field as the last man.
Following the event at Castle Pines, Bradley revealed that he didn’t believe he could win this weekend. The 38-year-old admitted to being “in a bit of a state of shock” as he went from the last man on the pitch to the last man standing. The golfer said he “played with a real sense of calm all week” which isn’t normal to him and he is proud of the same.
Interestingly, the 2011 PGA Championship winner noted that he “slept on the lead the last couple of days” and wasn’t too tensed about it.
Speaking about the possibility of winning the FedExCup, Keegan Bradley said in the 2024 BMW Championship winner’s press conference, as quoted by ASAP Sports:
“Honestly, no. I'm in a bit of a state of shock because there was a time a week ago about this time that I didn't think I was going to be coming here. I had to have a lot of magical things happen for me to just play in this tournament, and when I got here, I was so grateful just to be here. I played with a real sense of calm all week, which is not the norm for me… I'm really proud of the way that I played.”
Detailing the ‘tough’ achievement, Bradley said in the same presser:
“Winning on the PGA Tour is so difficult. I slept on the lead the last couple days. I did that at Hartford. I hadn't won that way since Hartford or ZOZO. So, it's a lot. Especially knowing a couple bogeys here or there, I'm not even playing Atlanta. But I'm really proud of the way I hung in there today. It was really tough. I really played great.”
Keegan Bradley leaps 46 spots on FedExCup list after BMW Championship win
It is pertinent to note that Keegan Bradley, who joined the BMW Championship field as the last man on the FedExCup points list, jumped 46 spots after the win. The experienced golfer sat fourth on the list behind Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and FedEx St. Jude Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama.
Along with Bradley, second-placed Scott joined Tommy Fleetwood (69) and Chris Kirk (69) to move into the top 30 of the points list. All four golfers qualified for the upcoming Tour Championship after bumping out Brian Harman, Jason Day, Davis Thompson and Denny McCarthy.
The victory also added a whopping $4,000,000 to his Keegan Bradley's bank. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the golfer has jumped several places to win the tournament. He had earlier won the same competition at Aronimink in 2018 after joining the No. 52 seed in a 70-man field.
Bradley had massive fan support at Castle Pines. The seven-time PGA Tour champion was recently named the US Ryder Cup team captain. The new skipper was welcomed with “USA” chants as he went along the back nine on Sunday.
Notably, Keegan Bradley also moved to No. 10 in the Presidents Cup standings.
