Keegan Bradley's two-word text that made his caddie think he is getting fired
Keegan Bradley's caddie, Scott Vail, recently shared a funny story about a misunderstanding when he thought a two-word text from Bradley meant he was about to get fired.
Bradley and Vail have been working together for eight years now, during which they've won four titles on the PGA Tour. This means the veteran caddie has been part of most of Bradley's wins. However, despite their success, Vail, like every other caddie, sometimes feels nervous about his job security.
Recently, Vail was a guest on the Golf’s Subpar podcast, hosted by Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. During the episode, the veteran caddie shared a humorous anecdote about how he learned that Bradley was set to become a Ryder Cup captain.
"I got up at 7 am and I had a text already from him," he told the hosts. "Well, the text said 'Call me. I need to speak to you.' And I'm like, Oh, what did I do? What did I do last week that's getting me fired today? What did I do?"
Vail immediately picked up the phone and called Bradley to check on him, only to realize that the golfer simply wanted to share the news of his Ryder Cup captaincy appointment. He mentioned that he was initially shocked, then became a bit emotional upon hearing the news, knowing how much this meant to the six-time PGA Tour winner.
"I was shocked at first and then I was, like, emotional," he continued. "Like I was almost crying because I know how much it means to him, how much not being on the team last year meant to him. It was just like this whirlwind of emotion."
When did Keegan Bradley hire Scott Vail as a caddie?
Keegan Bradley hired Scott Vail, who had previously worked with Steven Hale for a long time. Besides, he had also worked as a bagman for Henrik Stenson during the 2016 Open Championship.
Vail, who was born to NHL veteran Eric Vail, picked up golf at the Oshawa Golf Club. He began his caddying career on the Canadian Tour and Korn Ferry Tour before moving to the PGA Tour.
So far, Keegan Bradley and Vail have won four titles on the PGA Tour, including two BMW Championship titles. A couple of months ago, he posted a one-shot win over Ludvig Åberg, Sam Burns, and Adam Scott to win the 2024 BMW Championship. Last month, he also played a significant role in the US' win in the Presidents Cup.
