Kevin Na says he's been 'battling with LIV' for his team

Irons Heads GC captain Kevin Na opened up about his team battling the challenges on LIV Golf to improve their game. His team has struggled throughout the season but put forward the most surprising performance at this week's LIV Golf Team Championship.

After the Chicago event, they finished last in the team standings. However, they were fabulous in the Team Championship's quarterfinals, where they defeated Brooks Koepka's Smash GC and then registered another fantastic win against Bryson DeChambeau's Crusher GC in the semifinals.

During the press conference of the LIV Golf Team Championship on Saturday, September 21, Kevin Na reflected on his team's performance and also opened up about "battling with LIV Golf trying to better" his team.

Speaking of his team, Na said (via ASAP Sports):

"It would be huge. Yeah, I've been battling quite a bit with LIV trying to better my team. I think our team is getting better. Some of the guys are a bit young players as in the world stage, but they're only getting better every week we play in the experience they're building and the confidence they're building.
"But in the last few years the friendship I've built with my teammates has been incredible, and it's something that I think we'll be friends for the rest of our lives," he added.

However, after winning two back-to-back events in the last two days, Na is very confident about his team.

"Feels pretty damn good. I'm really proud of my boys. They fought hard. They needed -- when they needed to, they were there, and get the job done. It's a great feeling. I think a confidence boost the last two days going into Sunday. I'm telling my boys, anything can happen," he said.

Irons Heads GC, consisting of Danny Lee, Scott Vincent, Captain Kevin Na, and Jinichiro Kozuma, will now compete for the LIV Golf Team Championship title on Sunday, September 22. The four winning teams in the semifinals—Legion XIII, Ripper GC, Irons Heads, and Crusher GC—will play for the top four positions on the leaderboard in the finale.

A look into Kevin Na's Irons Heads performance in 2024

Kevin Na's Irons Heads GC had a tough outing throughout the 2024 season on the LIV Golf tour. They started their campaign by finishing last on the leaderboard at the season-opening Mayakoba event. However, at the Las Vegas event, their performance improved slightly, and they finished in 11th place.

This season, the team has not recorded any finishes in the top five. Their best results were solo sixth and tied for sixth at the Adelaide and Jeddah events, respectively. At the LIV Golf Chicago event, they finished in ninth place and settled in 13th position in the team standings.

This week, the team played at the LIV Golf Team Championship and surged to victory in the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the quarterfinals, they won a singles match and the foursome match to register a 2-1 victory.

From their side on Friday, only Kevin Na lost his singles match against Koepka, while Lee won his singles match against Talor Gooch, and Kozuma and Vincent won the foursome against Jason Kokrak and Graeme McDowell to win the overall match.

In the semifinals, Irons Heads were phenomenal, as they won all three matches and advanced to the final. Lee and Vincent competed in singles matches against DeChambeau and Paul Casey, respectively, and defeated them. Meanwhile, Na played in a foursome with Kozuma against Anirban Lahiri and Charles Howell II, winning by 3 & 1.
