Key factors for LIV Golf’s success in 2023 explored
The LIV Golf Series wrapped up its second season in 2023, with Talor Gooch picking up the individual championship and Crushers GC winning the team championship at the ultimate Miami event. The Series this year saw improvement over its first season and rightly so.
The league has managed to bag a few big players, including Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith and Dustin Johnson. They battled it out for victory in almost every event this year, and cumulatively hold seven out of the 13 wins of the year.
Talor Gooch, too, had a standout season this year, winning three individual events -- Australia, Singapore and Andalucia, to secure his spot at the top of the championship. Bryson DeChambeau's LIV Greenbrier performance was also nothing short of incredible, with a stunning 12-under 58 round carded by the golfer.
The stakes for the 2023 season were much higher than last year. The golfers were put on a 'relegation', where the bottom six golfers at the end of the season would lose their place in the league.
Chase Koepka, Sihwan Kim, Martin Kaymer, James Piot, Jediah Morgan and Lee Westwood found themselves in the danger zone this year. Kaymer's and Westwood's captaincy contract has saved their place in the league for now.
Team format for LIV Golf series undergoes successful change for 2023 season
The team format for the ultimate event of the LIV Golf Series saw a big change from its inaugural season, and it worked out in the league's favor. This year, Bryson DeChambeau and Anirban Lahiri's performance led the Crushers GC to victory.
The team format was much more intense this year, with the captains of the top four teams going head to head against each other in the finals. It also saw teams play fourball against each other, and gave the fans a fun and intense final event.
The LIV Golf series for its 2023 season made several improvements over its inaugural year. While the future of golf remains uncertain with the new merger taking place, the Series will continue to head strong into its 2024 season.
