Lexi Thompson returns to the range after stepping back from 'full-time' golf
Lexi Thompson returned to the golf course this week. The American golfer made a shock announcement earlier in May, revealing she would not be playing full-time in 2025. She wrapped up her full-time 2024 schedule at the Grant Thornton Invitational, a mixed-field event featuring PGA Tour and LPGA Tour players.
This week, Thompson took to Instagram to share a video of herself practicing some shots on the golf course. While LPGA Tour players have had time away from the greens this week, Thompson seemed to be enjoying her time away from competitive golf by practicing her game. Along with the video, Thompson wrote:
"I did say from full time😏"
Meanwhile, this season on the LPGA Tour, Lexi Thompson had a decent outing. She competed in 18 events and made the cut in 12 of them.
Lexi Thompson shares an emotional post as her "last full-time schedule" is "officially done"
Thompson last competed at the Grant Thornton Invitational in a team with PGA Tour pro Rickie Fowler. The tournament concluded on December 16, following which Thompson shared an emotional post on her Instagram account to mark the end of her last full-time schedule. She wrote:
"My 2024 season and last FULL TIME schedule year is officially done! I want to say first thank you to all the sponsors , volunteers, fans and course staff at Tiburón for hosting us this week at the @grantthorntoninv ! Always an enjoyable week , and really had fun playing alongside the guys especially my partner Rickie! What Grant Thornton does this week to give back to charitable foundations and also grow the game of golf both male and female is incredible . Such an honor to be part of it!"
Meanwhile, in her last outing at the Grant Thornton Invitational, Thompson struggled with her game while playing with Fowler. The duo shot three rounds of 63, 73, and 67, finishing in 14th place.
Meanwhile, on the LPGA Tour, Thompson started her season at the LPGA Drive On Championship and finished in T16 place. She shot four rounds of 70, 67, 69, and 76. However, she then struggled at the Fire Hills Seri Pak Championship and missed the cut after two rounds of 71 and 78.
Although she struggled in some of the events this year, she also recorded some decent finishes. She was tied for third place at the Ford Championship, T8 at the Dow Championship, T2 at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, and T9 at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. She had four top-10 finishes this season.
