List of golfers who WD from The Open Championship 2024 so far
Four golfers have withdrawn from The Open Championship so far. The final Major of the year kicked off on Thursday, July 18, at Royal Troon. However, four players from the field of 156 have already withdrawn from the competition.
French golfer Romain Langasque suffered a legitimate back injury during the first round of the Major, forcing him to withdraw from the competition. He teed off on the first hole but struggled with his game due to the injury. He played the first seven holes of the opening round, but as he took a shot on the eighth, he struggled and uttered something in frustration before finally opting to withdraw from the competition.
Past Open Champion Ernie Els also withdrew after shooting a round of 82 on Thursday. He cited a back injury as the reason for his withdrawal. The South African golfer had a rough outing in the opening round of the Major and could not continue. Els has won The Open Championship twice in his career, in 2002 and 2012.
In addition, veteran golfer John Daly withdrew due to a knee injury. The American golfer shot 82 in the opening round, and before he could tee off for the second round, he withdrew from the competition.
Swedish golfer Sebastian Soderberg also withdrew from The Open Championship. He opted out of the Major ahead of the commencement of the first round. Soderberg reportedly struggled with back and rib injuries, forcing him to withdraw before the start.

How did the golfers withdraw from The Open Championship play at the competition?
Sebastian Soderberg did not tee off for the competition, as he withdrew from the game ahead of the start. Meanwhile, the other three players who withdrew from the Major struggled with their game.
Romain Langasque teed it up on the first hole of Royal Troon and carded a bogey on the first hole. He shot a birdie on the next, followed by two more bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes. He added yet another two on the front nine before calling it quits. He scored +4 in his unfinished first round.
Ernie Els and John Daly completed their first rounds, both scoring 82 before withdrawing. Els also started his game on the first hole but struggled to make a single birdie on the front nine.
He shot a bogey on the third, a double bogey on the fourth and another on the fifth hole. He added yet another on the ninth. On the back nine, Els carded five consecutive bogeys from the eleventh to fifteenth holes. He thus had a rough outing and scored 11-over 82.
John Daly also struggled, failing to make a single birdie in the first round of The Open Championship 2024. He teed off on the first hole and shot three bogeys on the front nine. He struggled on the back nine as well, making four bogeys along with a double bogey on the final hole. He scored 11 over 82 before withdrawing from the competition.
