"Little bit of a different perspective"- Lydia Ko changes her outlook on windy conditions at AIG Women's Open after fun encounter with fellow teammate
Lydia Ko revealed how she managed the strong winds during the 2024 AIG Women’s Open. The Kiwi golfer, who won the women's singles gold medal at the Paris Olympics, has been impressive with her game at the ongoing Major at St. Andrews
However, during the tournament, play was hampered by strong winds. Following the third round on Saturday, August 24, Ko opened up about how she dealt with the challenging conditions.
Speaking about the weather, the 27-year-old shared that she laughed a lot during the event as she had “never seen a ball move” as it did during the AIG Women’s Open. She said (via ASAP Sports):
"Like there's been some shots that I just hit and all I can do is just laugh because I've just never seen a ball move like that. Even Money (Pei-yun Chien) today, she hit a putt and she obviously wasn't expecting it to go in, and then like the wind pushed it in and we all just started laughing.
"So it takes a little bit of a different perspective, and you've got to have that open mind to like play in these kind of conditions. Because if you think the ball is going to be like ai and robotic and do exactly how you think, I think it's going to be more of a struggle that way," she added.
The 2024 AIG Women’s Open, the final women’s Major of the year, is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, August 25. After three rounds, Lydia Ko is tied for fourth place with Jenny Shin. She will tee off for the final round just three strokes behind the leader, Jiyai Shin.
