LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman goes out to Paris to support Saudi-backed Olympic golfers, including Jon Rahm, David Puig & more

LIV commissioner Greg Norman traveled to Paris to support his circuit's players competing in the 2024 Olympics. Seven LIV golfers are participating in the Olympic golf event, which began with its inaugural round on Thursday, August 1.

Norman shared a picture of himself at the Paris Olympics, wearing a LIV Golf cap and cheering for his players, including Jon Rahm, David Puig, Joaquin Niemann, Adrian Meronk, Mito Pereira, Carlos Ortiz and Abraham Ancer. He has been enjoying his time at the Olympics, watching various sports before heading to the golf event.

The Paris Olympics golf tournament started on Thursday, August 1 with its first round. At the time of writing, Hideki Matsuyama leads the field after shooting an 8-under 63. Sami Välimäki is in second place, followed by Joaquin Niemann, Emiliano Grillo, Tom Kim, David Puig and Xander Schauffele all tied for third. However, they have yet to complete their rounds.


A look into the opening round performance of the LIV golfers ft. Jon Rahm

LIV golfers have had a decent start at the Paris Olympics. Joaquin Niemann began his round smoothly, starting with an eagle on the third hole. He then recorded birdies on the sixth and eighth holes. He added two more birdies on the 14th and 15th holes but ended with a bogey on the final hole, finishing with a score of 5-under 66.

Spanish golfer David Puig was impressive in the opening round, shooting four birdies on the front nine. Starting from the first tee, Puig made three consecutive birdies from the third to the fifth hole, added another on the ninth, and yet another on the 11th. Despite a strong start, Puig struggled on the 13th hole, shooting a bogey.

Jon Rahm also had a solid start, making an eagle on the third hole. However, he encountered difficulties on the seventh and eighth holes where he made bogeys, but recovered with a birdie on the ninth.

Mito Pereira started with an eagle but had a bogey on the fifth hole. He made two more birdies on the seventh and eighth holes. Adrian Meronk recorded two bogeys and two birdies on the front nine.

Carlos Ortiz shot four birdies on the front nine and has yet to start his game on the back nine. Abraham Ancer had a rough start, making a bogey on the front nine, but bounced back on the back nine with four birdies.

The first round is still underway and the scores mentioned above are subject to change as the LIV Golf and other players complete their rounds.
