LIV Golf star Dustin Johnson slips out of OWGR’s top 50 for first time in 13 years
Dustin Johnson had a rocking career year in 2022 where he won the inaugural season of LIV Golf and earned more than $30 million in prize money. Despite being so successful, the golfer slipped out of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have been engaged in a legal battle and following that, the Saudi-backed series players have been barred from playing on the Tour. This was not enough, as the points of LIV Golfers were not added to the OWGR and that led to a shocking fall in the rankings.
Dustin Johnson, the two-time major winner, signed a contract with LIV Golf last year after being offered a lucrative amount. DJ's ranking has been constantly dropping since then, and he is at 51st, which is not surprising as he is not the only one.
Bryson DeChambeau slipped out of the top 100, and Brooks Koepka is ranked 78th.
Meanwhile, PGA Tour players' rankings have witnessed a drastic upward graph. Scottie Scheffler regained the numero uno spot after winning the 2023 WM Phoenix Open on Sunday, February 12. He defeated Canadian golfer Nick Taylor by two shots. Rory McIlroy, who won the Desert Classic in January, slipped down to the second place.
