LIV Golf x PGA TOUR matchup gives major update ft. Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler vs Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau

A version of The Match pitting PGA Tour stars Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy against notable LIV Golf members Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka will be held on December 17 amid the prospective merger between the two golf tours. Per Underdog Golf on X, the event will be held at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The golf venue has been home to a variety of events. 2018's The Match, which was between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, was played there.

Shadow Creek also hosted the CJ Cup on the PGA Tour in October 2020 since the venue had to change due to COVID-19. Since 2021, the course has hosted the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play.

LIV Golf players and PGA Tour members have mixed in some DP World Tour events and Majors throughout the last couple of years. However, they have seldom competed in such a head-to-head manner. Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy competed against one another down the stretch of the US Open in 2024, but this is a team-based two-on-two match effectively pitting the two sides of golf against each other.

Rory McIlroy is excited for The Match vs Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka

When The Match was first announced, Rory McIlroy, who has previously been staunchly anti-LIV Golf, was one of the first players to express his excitement for the event.

McIlroy said via Sports Illustrated:

“I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie (Scheffler) in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson (DeChambeau) and Brooks (Koepka) in Vegas this December. This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.”

The merger between PIF and the PGA Tour is still up in the air, but this charity event will be one of the most unified things the two sides of the golf world have done since LIV's formation.
