LIV Golfer dubs circuit’s relegation system ‘bittersweet,’ sheds light on the brutal process
LIV golfer Paul Casey recently shed light on the circuit's relegation system, terming it 'bittersweet'. He said that while it would be a difficult road for the players who get relegated, it would be exciting to see who replaces them.
Casey is set to compete at LIV Golf Chicago this week, which tees off on Friday, September 13, at Bolingbrook Golf Club. While he is in the safe zone, ranked 11th in the standings, this event is the last chance for many players who are either in the drop zone or on the verge of falling into it.
On Thursday, September 12, Casey shared his perspective on LIV Golf's relegation system, via Asapsports.
"I mean, with the short season that we have compared to traditional tour golf that the three of us have experienced through the last couple of decades, those things can happen," he said. "13 regular season events and nowhere to hide. The same world-class field every single week, this is what's going to happen."
"Maybe people didn't realize that the first season or two, we always were very aware of it. I think now it's being talked about as only a good thing," he added.
He said he knew it was hard losing the card after going through this several times in his career. He added that he tried to stay away from such a situation as he didn't like to be around the players who were stressed out.
"It's going to be a difficult road for a lot of guys who do get (relegated) because of that churn, what do they do next," he continued. "They'll want to fight their way back out here, and there's an opportunity to do that, and I love that."
"From another side of it, it's also exciting to see who's going to replace them. It's bittersweet in a lot of ways," he added.
