“Long LIV Golf!” – Greg Norman on the Saudi-backed circuit’s latest partnership with the United Nations
LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman has praised the league for its latest partnership with UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency). The three-year agreement marks the UN's first-ever golf partnership.
On Monday, October 21, UNHCR announced a three-year partnership with LIV to implement innovative sport-for-protection programs for refugees, internally displaced people, and their host communities.
Following the announcement, Greg Norman took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the partnership. He said that sports played a huge role in the lives of refugees, providing hope, enjoyment, and mental relief.
"It provides community, social inclusion and acceptance," he continued. "This is the first time the United Nations has integrated golf into their programs, and we will work together over the coming years to maximize this impact and become a central advocate for this cause in the sports industry."
He added that by partnering with UNHCR, LIV was going beyond traditional boundaries to improve the lives of some of the most at-risk and disadvantaged people in the world.
"I am extremely proud of all our initiatives and our league has proven that anything is possible, but this partnership and the impact golf can impart on so many, to me is one of the most significant moments in LIV Golf’s journey forward. Long LIV Golf," he concluded.
Under this partnership, the Saudi-backed circuit will invest $10 million to improve access to sports and education for nearly 1 million displaced people in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. Besides, the LIV will introduce golf and other sports-based activities to enhance the quality of life for at-risk individuals.
