Martin Kaymer out of LIV Golf League season opener with injury

In a recent development, Cleeks GC Captain Martin Kaymer will not play in this week’s LIV Golf Mayakoba as he is still recovering from wrist surgery. Reserve player Laurie Canter will replace him in the four-man squad, as reported by LIV.

Kaymer had to withdraw from LIV Golf Jeddah due to an injury to his left wrist. Since then, he has been out of action and missed out on the Miami Team Championship. He is still with his team as the non-playing captain. He then underwent surgery in mid-November.

“It’s four months now and the problem is the tissue takes a long time to heal. So I’m putting right now. Little bit of chipping here and there. But I still have pain once in a while. I have some good days and some not so good days. I guess that’s what rehab is all about," said Kaymer.

He is hopeful of hitting golf balls in a couple of weeks.

Canter participated in the final six events of last year's LIV Golf season and was one of the best performers for Cleeks at the Miami Team Championship. The 33-year-old won both his quarterfinals and semifinal singles matches. In the semifinal singles match, he defeated 4Aces GC star, Patrick Reed.

Canter will join Richard Bland, Bernd Wiesberger, and Graeme McDowell this week.
