Matt Fitzpatrick takes a jibe at the FedExCup playoff format while congratulating Scottie Scheffler for his win

Matt Fitzpatrick took a playful jibe at the FedEx Cup final's format while congratulating Scottie Scheffler on his victory. The final FedEx Cup event concluded on Sunday, September 1, at the East Lake Golf Club, with the current World No. 1 emerging as the champion.

The tournament follows a stroke-gained format, where players start with a score based on their rankings in the FedEx Cup standings, with round scores being added as the tournament progresses. Scottie Scheffler entered the Tour Championship as the No.1 in the FedEx Cup standings, and started with a score of 10-under, two strokes ahead of Xander Schauffele.

After four rounds at the Tour Championship, his score was 20-under. Adding his starting score of 10-under, he finished with a total of 30-under to triumph at the event.

Following the end of the tournament, Fitzpatrick, who failed to qualify for the Tour Championship after finishing outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings following the BMW Championship, took to X (formerly Twitter), and wrote:

"Congrats to Scottie, thoroughly deserved after the season he had! Happy that the playoff format didn’t take that away from him haha."

In the four rounds of the Tour Championship, Collin Morikawa scored the lowest, at 22-under. As he had started with a score of 4-under, his total reached 26-under, placing him four strokes behind Scheffler on the final leaderboard. Morikawa finished in second place followed by Sahith Theegala. Russell Henley tied for fourth place with Adam Scott and Xander Schauffele.
