Max Homa once picked a $65M-worth LIV Golfer as the ‘most underrated golfer in the world’
While Tyrrell Hatton is having an impressive year, Max Homa has always believed in the golfer's talent and once called him the most underrated player in the world.
After a memorable season on the LIV Golf circuit, Hatton continued his good form on the DP World Tour and won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday, October 6. This was his seventh win on the DP World Tour and his first in three years.
Earlier this year, golf journalist Kyle Porter asked fans on X to name the most underrated golfer in the world. Max Homa responded to the post and picked the $65 million LIV golfer’s name.
"The answer is Tyrrell Hatton," he wrote
Hatton joined LIV Golf earlier this year and reportedly received a contract worth more than $65 million. He had a remarkable debut season on the Saudi-backed circuit, achieving seven top-ten finishes and three podium finishes. He ended his title drought by winning LIV Golf Nashville and also secured a runner-up finish at LIV Golf UK. He finished fourth in the individual standings, earning $11,630,595 this season.
Is Max Homa playing at the Black Desert Championship?
Max Homa is not competing in the Black Desert Championship, the next event on the PGA Tour's schedule. The third event of the FedEx Cup Fall will take place from Thursday, October 10 to Sunday, October 13, at the Black Desert Resort Golf Course in Ivins, Utah. This marks the first time since 1963 that the PGA Tour will return to Utah.
Although the top players are currently on break, the 2024 Black Desert Championship field will feature some notable names, including Keith Mitchell, Nick Taylor, Daniel Berger, Kurt Kitayama, Beau Hossler, Seamus Power, and Chris Kirk.
As for Homa, this season has been quite underwhelming, with just three top-ten finishes in 21 starts. He made 17 cuts and recorded his career-best T3 finish at the Masters Tournament. He finished 46th in the FedEx Cup after a poor run in the playoffs. He last played at the Procore Championship, where he missed the weekend.
Homa was also part of the US team at the Presidents Cup two weeks ago. Team US continued their dominance, posting an 18.5-11.5 win over the International team. However, the 33-year-old golfer had an underwhelming week, collecting just 1 point and finishing with a 1-2-0 record.
