Max Homa returns to social media for unique reason amid BMW Championship, admits being 'wrong' for leaving

Max Homa recently returned to social media after briefly leaving it to focus on his game. After leaving the space, the American golfer quickly realized he was "wrong" and decided to come back.

Max Homa shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, explaining how he "hopped off" the platform, thinking it would improve his performance. Unfortunately, he had a disappointing outing at last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard. He secured 70th place but still managed to qualify for this week's BMW Championship. However, as the FedEx Cup event continues, Homa is hopeful for a better finish.

"Hopped off Twitter a while back cuz I thought it might help my game. Boy was I wrong šŸ˜‚ hoping tomorrow is the day it clicks. At the very least Iā€™m finally going to grow an ass after walking Castle Pines this week," he wrote.

After the first round of the 2024 BMW Championship, which began on Thursday, August 22, he finished in a tie for 38th place among the 50-player field, shooting a 2-over 74. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, August 25.

Max Homa struggles to secure a spot in the Tour Championship

Only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW Championship will qualify for the 2024 Tour Championship. However, Max Homa is struggling to secure a spot in the final playoff next week. After the first round of the 2024 BMW Championship, he slipped three spots in the FedEx Cup standings, with a projected ranking of 46th. His chances of securing a place in the Tour Championship are dwindling.

Scottie Scheffler remains at the top of the FedEx Cup standings, followed by Xander Schauffele. Meanwhile, Hideki Matsuyama is in third place, with Keegan Bradley close behind. Justin Thomas, Taylor Pendrith, and Tom Hoge sit at the bottom of the top 30, while Brian Harman, Denny McCarthy, and Si Woo Kim are just outside the top 30. However, the final field will be determined after the conclusion of the 2024 BMW Championship on Sunday, August 25.

In the first round of the 2024 BMW Championship, Max Homa had a rough start, shooting a bogey on the first hole. He added another bogey on the third hole and managed a birdie on the next. The American golfer recorded four bogeys and just two birdies, finishing with a 2-over 74 and tied for 38th place.

Meanwhile, Keegan Bradley topped the leaderboard at 6-under par, shooting 66 in the first round. Hideki Matsuyama, who won the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship, also had a strong start this week, carding a 67 in the first round to settle in second place, just one stroke behind Bradley. Sungjae Im, Alex Noren, Adam Scott, and Corey Conners are tied for third place, while Si Woo Kim, Xander Schauffele, and Nick Dunlap are tied for seventh place.
