Max Homa takes a dig at the Tour Championship's system, uses NFL reference to question Scottie Scheffler's lead

Max Homa has questioned the Tour Championship's current format after Scottie Scheffler took a historic lead on Day 1. He took to social media, joking about the scoring system with a reference to the NFL.

The Tour Championship began on Thursday, August 29, with Scottie Scheffler entering the field with a 10-stroke advantage. He shot a 6-under 65 and aggregated to 16-under, taking a 7-stroke lead following the first day. Max Homa is not competing at East Lake Golf Club after finishing 46th in the FedEx Cup standings.

After the first round, PGA Tour Communications posted that Scheffler had set a Tour record by leading with seven strokes or more after 18 holes. However, Max Homa found this absurd and hilariously shared his views on X.

"The Chiefs score 2 touchdowns in the first quarter and lead by 30, a new record"

Even without the scoring format, Scheffler was the best performer on Day 1, being the only player to shoot 6-under. He began with a bogey on the first hole but ensured it was his only one of the day. He sank seven birdies in the first round to take a seven-stroke lead over Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele.

Morikawa started the day at 4-under and aggregated to 9-under after firing a 66, while Schauffele shot a 1-under 70 after beginning at 8-under.
