"Maybe Wyndham Clark doesn't get to where he is" - Max Greyserman uses rival as example while reflecting on PGA Tour's new field size

Max Greyserman recently shared his insights on the PGA Tour's new reduced field size. He expressed concern that several promising players might not get the chance to reach their potential with these changes.

Greyserman, the World No. 42 golfer, was recently seen competing at the Zozo Championship, where he tied for second. This marked his third runner-up finish of the season.

In a recent interview with the PGA Tour's SiriusXM radio, Greyserman shared his displeasure with the limited field size on the PGA Tour. He cited examples of Wyndham Clark and Denny McCarthy, noting that while they are in the top 50 now, they ranked between 101 and 125 in the FedEx Cup during their early years.

Max Greyserman added that under the current rules, they might not have reached their current status, and their career trajectories could have stalled.

"Losing their card would mean their career stalls," he continued. "And they would have to go back to the Korn Ferry Tour. With no Korn Ferry finals, they'd need to return for a full year and finish in the top 20 to get back to the PGA Tour.
"I look at these examples and wonder maybe Wyndham Clark doesn’t get to where he is now under that system. The best players usually rise, but perhaps it would have stagnated his career, and he wouldn't have achieved his current success," he added.

The 29-year-old golfer also said there were no clear answers, describing the situation as a double-edged sword.

"You want to improve the experience for current tour players, but you also risk missing out on a future star, like Clark, who struggled early but then became a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup standout. What if he never makes it because of this change?" he concluded.

How did Max Greyserman perform in the 2024 season?

Max Greyserman had a solid outing in the 2024 season, missing just six cuts in 25 starts. He recorded nine top-25 finishes, including five top 10s. Despite strong performances and runner-up finishes at the 3M Open, Wyndham Championship, and most recently at the Zozo Championship, he was unable to secure a win.
