“Might not have qualified for the Olympics in this life” - Brooks Koepka’s wife Jena Sims makes up for her FOMO by getting a custom bag
Brooks Koepka's wife, Jena Sims, has caught the Olympic spirit that has gripped the golf world over the past two weeks. So much so that she addressed the topic in her latest social media post.
Sims posted on her Instagram Stories about a purchase she made from the APL brand. Her purchase was a pair of shoes from the line launched by American Olympic champion Nastia Liukin.
The wife of Brooks Koepka posted several video clips on her Instagram Stories showing her with the bag of her purchase, taking the shoes out of the box and trying them on. She accompanied the post with the following caption:
"Might not have qualified for the Olympics in this life or a past one, but @nastialiukin making me feel like I did. In her new shoe drop gold."
APL is an athletic footwear brand launched in 2009. It includes a wide range of products designed for women, men and children.
Nastia Liukin is an American former gymnast. She participated in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where she won one gold medal (all-around), three silvers and one bronze.
During her career, she also won four gold medals at the World Championships and three at the Pan American Games, in addition to other titles.
Liukin's favorite color during her competitive phase was pink, in fact, she won her Olympic gold medal wearing a pink outfit. Her sportswear line is also identified with pink, which is the color of the shoes purchased by Jena Sims.
Did Brooks Koepka play in the Olympics?
Brooks Koepka did not play in the Olympics, although he had the opportunity to do so. When golf returned to the Olympic program in 2016, Koepka was not ranked high enough and was left off the U.S. team.
Representing the U.S. at Rio de Janeiro 2016 were Bubba Watson (ranked 5th in the world), Rickie Fowler (7th), Patrick Reed (13th) and Matt Kuchar (15th), who came home with the bronze medal.
The situation was different for the Tokyo 2020 Games, which were held in 2021 due to COVID-19. By then, Koepka had won four Major championships and was one of the best players in the world.
However, Koepka declined to participate in the event. In the end, Justin Thomas (3rd), Collin Morikawa (4th), Xander Schauffele (5th) and Patrick Reed (9th) represented the United States, with Schauffele winning the title.
Three years later, things have changed drastically again. Koepka is still one of the best players in the world, but his membership in LIV Golf means that he does not accumulate enough points for the world rankings.
Koepka is currently ranked 56th in the Official World Golf Ranking, thanks to his results in Major championships. However, this is far from enough to qualify him for the Olympic team.
Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark represented the United States in 2024, with Scheffler winning the gold medal.
