Mike Weir exposes International Team's strategy to play same eight for both Saturday sessions at the Presidents Cup

Mike Weir's International Team had a difficult start to the 2024 Presidents Cup. In Round 1 of the competition, the International Team suffered a setback as Team USA pulled off its fifth clean sweep in the event's history. However, the Weir-led team gave Team USA a befitting reply on Saturday.

On Day 2 of the Presidents Cup, the International Team pulled off its second-ever clean sweep in the competition's history. After this achievement, Mike Weir continued with the same eight golfers in Round 3 who represented the International Team in Round 2.

In a statement on the Presidents Cup X handle, Mike Weir explained the decision to play the same eight for both sessions. He said:

"They're playing well. We like the matchups."

Compared to Round 1, the International Team's major difference in Round 2 and Round 3 was the absence of Tom Kim. After the International Team had suffered a clean sweep in the first round, Mike Weir had justified the decision to drop Kim in Round 2.

As per the International Team captain, making Kim sit out was part of the plan. It's also important to note that in the first round of the 2024 Presidents Cup, Tom Kim was involved in a heated game against Scottie Scheffler. Controversy also erupted when Kim and Sungjae Im walked away before Scottie Scheffler could finish putting.

When Mike Weir and his International Team suffered a clean-sweep in Round 1, many wondered how it would be able to come back. Despite the outcome, Weir stayed positive and mentioned there is a long way to go. This positivity translated into the team's play in Round 2 as it managed to clean-sweep Team USA.

The International Team received a lot of appreciation for its performance, and ahead of Round 3, the players were welcomed by a roaring crowd at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. In a video uploaded on the official X handle of the International Team, its golfers can be seen soaking the love they received from the crowd.
