Harold Varner's participation in LIV Golf receives mixed response

His decision to play in the upcoming LIV Golf League was met with mixed reactions online.

One fan wrote of his displeasure at the decision:

"Missed you at the Riv yesterday my Guy. It sucks that you can’t play the Genesis anymore that was our annual get together lol good luck this weekend"

Another user chimed in to write:

"Great dude. Miss watching you in the Tour"

The above comment refers to the ongoing Genesis Invitational, a tournament on the PGA Tour that is being held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Another comment reads:

"At least you are honest on why you went to LIV. Make bank for your family."

Varner made over 12 million playing on the PGA Tour with no wins whilst he was in it. He has, however, won other tournaments worldwide, one of which is the PIF Saudi International. This helped him attain his position within the top 50 golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking, boosting his career.

The talented golfer has always been publicly honest about his reasons for joining the LIV Golf series. He claimed his decision to exit the PGA Tour was based mostly on the greater monetary benefits he'd be receiving upon joining the Saudi-backed league.

The 32-year-old was subjected to a harsh backlash from his fans when news of his exit from the PGA Tour was fresh. At a news conference held on August 31, 2022, Varner expressed his surprise to the reporters present, at the backlash he had received from his fans.

“It sucked,” he said. “Who likes to be hated? It’s terrible. I hate being hated. I’d rather not be, not even be known than be hated."

Overall, the initial backlash he had faced has seemingly subsided now. Most of the reactions are either bittersweet or completely supportive. Users either wish him luck and cheer him on for his upcoming games or joke about the ongoing lawsuit between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.
