"My caddie and my family sacrifice so much": DP World Nedbank Golf Challenge winner Johannes Veerman makes emotional statement after big win
Johannes Veerman expressed his emotional side in a video posted by the DP World Tour on its official X account on December 8, 2024. The video was taken from a post-match interview shortly after he won the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
With a score of 5-under, the American fended off the challenge of Romain Langasque, Matthew Jordan, and Aldrich Potgieter to come out on top at the event. As the reporter asked Veerman about his feelings after winning, he got emotional.
"My caddie and my family sacrifice so much to travel with me on the road... To leave your family and leave your friends behind, it's a lot of sacrifice and you know I did not have the best season in the last two years and we put a lot of work in me and my team, countless hours. To start off this season with a win is indescribable.”
Veerman appeared to be wiping off tears while speaking in this interview. In his final round on Sunday, the 32-year-old claimed his victory in a thrilling way. Potgieter failed to secure his win on his home ground. The South African golfer scored two double bogies in the final round, allowing Veerman to capitalize and clinch his second Tour title.
Johannes Veerman scored six birdies in the final round at the Gary Player Country Club. He hit birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 9th, 11th, and 14th holes, to go along with bogeys on the 3rd, 5th, and 16th holes. He finished one stroke ahead of the three golfers in second place.
