"My game is pretty solid"- Corey Conners will team up with anyone at the Presidents Cup after 'no cuts missed' PGA season
Corey Conners is one of three Canadians who will be playing on home soil at the upcoming Presidents Cup. The event will be held September 24-29 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada.
The player was one of six picks made by compatriot and International Team captain Mike Weir. The 2024 season has been a solid one for Corey Conners, who has not missed a cut in 22 events.
Corey Conners recently gave an interview to Canadian media outlet Sportsnet and had this to say about his expectations for the Presidents Cup:
"I know the captains have been working hard, trying to figure out who's going to pair best together, but I'm happy to play with anyone." [3:01 - 3:12]
"I feel like my game is pretty solid around, pretty steady, pretty good in both formats, just kind of free up my partner as much as possible, but also hopefully get on a roll and make a bunch of birdies myself." [3:13 - 3:26]
Corey Conners also offered an assessment of his 2024 season on the PGA Tour. In his opinion, his performances have been "pretty consistent":
"I would say, for the most part, it has been pretty consistent. I've had a lot of decent finishes, just haven't had the great weeks I want, and I need to have to win and contend a little bit more on the PGA Tour, but it's been pretty solid." [0:53 - 1:10]
Corey Conners joins countrymen Mackenzie Hughes and Taylor Pandrith on the International Team. Also on the team are Hideki Matsuyama (Japan), Sungjae Im (South Korea), Adam Scott (Australia), Tom Kim (South Korea), Jason Day (Australia), Byeong Hun An (South Korea), Christiaan Bezuidenhout (South Africa), Si Woo Kim (South Korea), and Min Woo Lee (Australia).
Corey Conners' 2024 season overview
Corey Conners has played in 22 events during the 2024 PGA Tour season and made the cut in all of them. However, it should be noted that six of these events were closed field events, meaning there were no cuts:
- The Sentry
- AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
- RBC Heritage
- Travelers Championship
- FedEx St. Jude Championship
- BMW Championship
Conners has had 12 top-25 finishes, including three top-10s. His best finish of the year so far was sixth place at the RBC Canadian Open, although his T9 at the US Open was also outstanding.
He finished in the top 40 in the rest of the majors. He tied for 38th at the Masters, tied for 26th at the PGA Championship, and tied for 25th at the Open Championship.
The Canadian came close to breaking into the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings, but finished 39th. This was influenced by his poor finishes in the first two playoff events (T50 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and T22 at the BMW Championship).
