Nelly Korda wraps up disappointing Paris Olympics performance as medal finish slips away- "I'm never going to stop trying"
2020 Olympics champion Nelly Korda had a contrasting outing this time, as she struggled to find her rhythm throughout the week. However, she hasn't put her shoulders down and remains determined for the future.
On Saturday, August 10, Nelly Korda carded a 3-over 75 to finish at 1-under, placing T22, nine strokes behind Lydia Ko. This was unlike her performance at the Tokyo Olympics, where she won the gold medal and entered Le Golf National as a favorite.
Following her disappointing outing, Nelly Korda reflected on her performance this week.
"I was aggressive when I could," she said. "And I played safe when I had to. I mean, I played pretty solid until the last couple holes. Again I feel like that was the story of my week. Other than that I played some solid golf."
She said that lately, she had been making one mistake after another, which she needed to get under control.
"I'm never going to stop trying and I'm always going to try my hardest and I'm never going to back down," she added.
Summing up the week, Korda praised the crowd and was proud of her Olympics campaign.
"I'm a two-time Olympian and I have a Gold Medal and I'm proud of that," she concluded.
A look at Nelly Korda's performance at the 2024 Olympics
Nelly Korda had a tough start to the 2024 Olympics women's golf event, shooting an even-par 72 in the first round. She followed this with back-to-back 70s in the second and third rounds.
In the final round, Korda started strong with two birdies in the first three holes. However, she bogeyed the fifth and seventh holes. She made another birdie on the ninth and was 1-under until the 12th hole. On the par-4 13th, she bogeyed again but rebounded with a birdie on the next hole.
Over the four days at Le Golf National, Korda recorded 19 birdies but also had 11 bogeys and two double bogeys.
Despite the poor week, the 26-year-old golfer has had a great season so far. She has registered six wins this season, including the Chevron Championship. She will next compete at the Women's Open, which will take place from Thursday, August 22, to Sunday, August 25, at the Old Course.
